Sergeant Dicks

Sergeant Dicks was feeling good. It was a pleasant day in Bagdad being on a routine patrol checking the crews laying new communication lines in the outskirts of the city. He had just talked with his wife and everything was going fairly well for her and the children back home. She was able to keep up with the required payments and get the things needed to survive in an economy that was starting to become tight. He liked the Army and had readily returned to Iraq for a second tour of duty. It was important to him to be defending his country from the forces that were intent on bringing down the greatest country in the world. He would stay as long as his country needed him.

It wasn’t a bad life. He made a fairly good living being a sergeant and enough seniority to get decent housing for his family. It got lonely being away from the family for long periods but with the modern communications systems he was able to keep close to what was going on at home and let them know he was alright.

Suddenly, with a deafening roar, his vehicle became airborne and rolled in the air like an acrobatic airplane. It all seemed to happen in slow motion. Through the windshield the sky and earth were rotating like the scene painted on a top, the sound of twisting tearing metal was followed by absolute darkness and silence.

Days later sergeant Dicks woke and sat up in bed. He swung his feet to the floor stood up, marched down to the Captain’s office and knocked on the door. A voice from inside said, “Come in Sergeant Dicks.”
He marched up to the Captain’s desk, standing at attention said, “Sir, I am fit and ready to return to my troops. Request permission to be release from the hospital so I can do so.”

The captain leaned back in his chair looking at the fine physical specimen of a soldier in front of him. He sighed and replied, “I know you think you are ready sergeant but you aren’t. The truth is you are going to be honorably discharged with medical conditions.”

“How can that be sir? I feel great! I have no wounds that require healing! I must return to my troops sir!”

An orderly entered the office and took sergeant Dicks by the arm and led him back to his bed. “Sergeant, you are getting yourself all excited again. Here just lie down and rest.”

Sergeant Dicks woke and sat up in bed. He swung his feet to the floor stood up, marched down to the Captain’s office and knocked on the door. A voice from inside said, “Come in Sergeant Dicks.”

The Intent of Teddy's Place

My intentions are to do a daily posting. I have already missed that to start, since a day has passed since my opening posting. Trying to figure how to go with this, I have decided I will make this an open forum for me and anyone else who wishes to join in. I will post different comments on different topics which may or may not be my feelings. I hope to make it interesting enough to have people returning to see what I have posted each day. I will try my hand at telling some stories, some true some not. I may or may not tell you if they are true or not, depending on how I feel at that moment. Hopefully I do not to offend anyone, if the subject I choose to discuss is offensive to anyone, tell me why you find it offensive. I mean to throw thoughts out that are open for discussion or to be looked at possibly in a different perspective. I hope this will be a fun and enlightening learning experience for me and anyone else who chooses to participate.

That is enough for this posting. I will now see what I can come up with for tomorrow.

I Am Born Today

I am born today and have yet to discover who I am.
